And the fear effect on Phoenix Guard might help ending the battle a bit quicker anyway. Phoenix Guards might not mop them up as quickly but it's usually the ranged and cav/monsters that do the killing anyway. Most enemy infantry reaches my infantry line damaged because of my ranged units. Usually I'm using my infantry as the anvil anyway.
